Tails of Superior: Your Dog’s Ultimate Weekend Getaway

Calling all dog lovers! Get ready to pack up your furry friends and head to Superior, Arizona, for a weekend or day trip your pup won’t forget. Superior welcomes visitors of all kinds—including the four-legged ones! From pet-friendly patios to scenic hiking trails and a paws-itively awesome event at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior is the place to be for both humans and their loyal companions.

October 26th, 2024 | 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Superior is going to the dogs—literally! Celebrate tails and trails at the Dogtoberfest at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Expect a jam-packed day full of dog-friendly fun. Activities include:


  • Dogs available for adoption (meet your new best friend!)

  • Dog Halloween costume contest (because who doesn’t love a dog in a tutu?)

  • Local pet vendors (treat your doggo to something special)

  • Food and drinks for purchase (for the humans)

  • Animal safety talks (stay safe while adventuring)

  • Live music (pup-approved tunes)

  • Dog agility demos and courses by Desert Paws Agility (watch the pros, then give it a try!)


All activities are included with admission, and we guarantee lots of wagging tails and happy howls. You’ll leave with one tired pup and lots of great memories.





Take an Epic Walk with Your Dog

Once you've had your fill of Dogtoberfest, why not take your pup for a sniff-tastic walk around Superior? Let your furry friend’s nose lead the way! Besich Park is a great spot for a relaxing break after some solid exploration. If you're feeling adventurous, hit up a segment of the Legends of Superior Trail (LOST)—a scenic gem perfect for hiking, biking and reconnecting with nature around Superior. There’s a trail length for every pooch:




  • Arnett Canyon – 6.5 miles of beautiful views

  • Pinal City Panther Segment – 1.2 miles of historic charm

  • Miners and Ranchers Segment – 1 mile of rugged desert

  • Superior Town Center – 0.7 mile, perfect for short legs


Note: The Queen Creek Segment is closed for bridge construction, but we’re sure your pup will forgive you with so many other options to explore!




Grab a Bite at Dog-Friendly Hangouts

When it’s time to fuel up, Superior’s got you covered with pup-friendly patios! Your dog can kick back while you chow down at these local favorites:


  • Porter’s Saloon & Grill (695 Main St.): Porter’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a side of Thursday karaoke and live music. And hey, your dog might want to sing along!

  • Silver King Smokehouse & Saloon (404 W Main St.): This spot is all about smoked meats, burgers, and craft cocktails. The perfect place to unwind with your four-legged BFF after a day of exploring.


Your pup wouldn't mind if you drop a few bites of the King's Plate at Silver King Smokehouse & Saloon.

Why not extend your trip and make a whole weekend out of it? Superior offers a few great options where pets are welcome!


  • Box 8 Ranch (226 South Smith Dr.): This 25-acre campground and RV park is perfect for pups who love the great outdoors. With UTV trails, nature hikes, and equestrian paths, it’s a doggo’s dream!

  • Copper Mountain Motel (577 W Kiser St.): If your pup prefers a more traditional stay, Copper Mountain Motel welcomes small pets and offers charming retro vibes.


Tiny House exterior patio is perfect for getting fresh air and Desert Escape's indoor fireplace couldn't be cozier.


Prefer a home-away-from-home? Superior has some great pet-friendly Airbnbs, including cozy options like The Tiny Houseand Desert Escape in nearby Top-of-the-World. Check them out for a unique stay both you and your dog will love.



Don’t Forget to Treat Your Pup (and Yourself!)

Before you head home, stop by Felicia’s Ice Cream Shop (329 Main St.) for a delicious ice cream in a waffle cone. Your pup will be begging for a lick, but maybe you can settle with a dog-friendly treat instead. If you need a quick snack, hit up El Barrio (629 Hwy 60) for some funky, Latina-owned, sweet and salty goodness!
